2022. It seemed like it would never get here, yet the last few months flew by! At the start of the year, we’d just left Alaska to be somewhat closer to family with a short flight between us, instead of 3500 miles and a 12 hour travel time.
Now that we got a bit settled in Colorado, we decided to uproot ourselves and buy our first home together in the mountains a bit further northwest!
We officially close on our home this week, so us plus Roxy & Rico will have a fun new adventure with making the home our own. We’ll be living at 9000’+ elevation, which will be interesting for all of us to adapt.
It’s been awhile since I’ve done the pet blogger challenge and I’m super excited to share what I’ve been up to! Thanks so much to Colby Morita of Puppy In Training for hosting. I can’t wait to see what everyone else has been up to!
PBJ 2022 Questions
When did you begin your blog and what do you currently write about on your blog?
I started Om Shanti Pups 4 whole years ago this week! When I started, I was mostly focused on how to have happy, healthy dogs and have stayed with that focus. I write about how to get more active with your dogs, created #ActiveDogMonth, which occurs each April, and share quality products other dog parents would love.
Name one thing about your blog, or one blogging goal that you accomplished during 2021, that made you most proud.
My traffic took off considerably over the past year! I’ve been a social media specialist for large corporations, small businesses, and bloggers since way back in 2010, so naturally that’s what my focus tended to be once I started OSP.
However, towards the end of 2020, my Pinterest account got caught up in a glitch that sunk my traffic dramatically.
Luckily, I was able to get it back after a few weeks, but it was a bit scary. Since then, I’ve been focusing more on organic traffic and utilizing my email list. As a result, my traffic increased over 218% to almost 300,000 pageviews a year!
Traffic growth will continue to be a main focus so I can continue growing and helping more dog families have happy, healthy dogs.
What was the biggest blogging challenge you faced in 2021? How did you tackle it?
Time management and actual writing was the biggest challenge for me this year. I was diagnosed with a few autoimmune issues over the past year and a half, and one of the biggest struggles is brain fog. It makes writing soooo slow sometimes! I’ve learned to do what I can, when I can and the rest will happen when it happens!
Tell us one thing you learned in 2021 that can help us all become better bloggers.
SEO, SEO, SEO! Search engine optimization is tricky to learn, but definitely worth it. I haven’t found one definitive source of information yet, but utilizing Keysearch.co and free resources like Ubersuggest has been very helpful.
What are your top three blogging goals for 2022?
My main goal is to bring in more income over 2022, which will allow me to write more and help dogs and their families. As a result, my top three goals are to boost that through increased ad revenue, focusing on affiliate programs, and reaching out to pet companies I already use for my babies for sponsorship opportunities.
In the perfect world, where do you see yourself and your blog one year from now?
I’m hopeful I can make great leaps in the amount of content I’m putting out and having it reach the right audience.
If you had a $1,000 to spend on your blog how would you spend it?
I would absolutely reinvest it in quality articles! The more content I have, the more people and dogs I can help!
What is one skill you’d like to learn or improve in 2022?
While I’ve made great improvement in my SEO knowledge, I still feel like I have a long way to go before I truly *get* it. That will be a work in progress for sure!
If you could ask the pet blogging community for help with one challenge you’re having with your blog, what would it be?
I’d love to have some help promoting #ActiveDogMonth each April! It’s an entire month geared towards helping dogs and their owners shake off the winter blues and get more active both physically and mentally. Here are some of our top posts!
